3 Ski Resorts Near Toronto Perfect for a Families
At Evolve, we believe that the best days on the hill are the ones you share. Whether you’re a first-time skier, a weekend warrior, or just there for hot chocolate breaks, nothing beats heading to the mountains together. Here are three of our favorite ski resorts near Toronto — all perfect for family getaways packed with fresh air, good vibes, and endless runs.
1. Blue Mountain Resort – The Classic Family Favorite
Blue is a classic for a reason. It’s Ontario’s biggest and best-known ski resort — with everything from beginner-friendly bunny hills to double-black runs that’ll keep even the most confident riders happy. The village is buzzing with restaurants, shops, and après spots, and there’s something for every age, from tubing and snowshoe tours to spas and indoor waterparks.
Parents can sneak in a few solo laps knowing the kids are covered — with lessons starting as young as 3, and full-day programs for little shredders. Plus, it’s just 2.5 hours from Toronto, making it easy to turn a quick weekend trip into a full-on family mini-vacation.
2. Mount St. Louis Moonstone – Family-Run, Family-Fun
This one’s close to our hearts — and our home hill for Evolve’s winter camps! Mount St. Louis Moonstone is an awesome spot for families looking for great snow, no crowds, and a fun, low-stress vibe. It’s proudly family-owned and known for having one of the best snowmaking systems in the country — meaning perfect conditions all season long.
The terrain is super balanced, with beginner runs, fun groomers, and a few black diamonds for when you’re ready to step it up. On weekends and holidays, kids can join lessons or day camps (ages 7–14), while parents explore or relax. There’s no accommodation right on the hill, but Barrie’s just down the road with plenty of food, shops, and cozy places to stay.
🚗 Only about 1.5 hours from Toronto.
3. Horseshoe Resort – Easygoing Fun for Every Rider
Horseshoe is all about variety and convenience. With a smaller mountain (308 ft vertical), it’s the perfect place for beginners to build confidence, but still fun for experienced skiers and boarders looking to mix it up. The cross-country trails are some of the best in Ontario, and there’s no shortage of off-snow fun: tubing, snowmobiling, and even a spa if you’re ready to unwind.
When it’s time to refuel, you’ll find everything from quick bites to a full steakhouse dinner by chef Dylan Tulloch. Horseshoe runs year-round, too — so come back in summer for zip lines, segway tours, and rock climbing.
Ready to Ride?
Whether your family’s brand-new to snow or born to shred, these resorts make it easy to get outside and ride together. Grab your gear, pack the car, and make some memories — because the best winter stories always start on the chairlift.
