Spring is here! The snow is finally gone, the birds are chirping, the temperature is rising… it’s almost time for Evolve Camps to get underway. With fun right around the corner, it’s time to start getting yourself, especially your body, prepared. Nutrition is key! Whether you ride a skateboard or a scooter, you need to be fueling yourself properly in order get the most out of your time at camp.
Let us help you out. Here’s five spring nutrition tips to help you get prepared:
Stay Hydrated
Did you know that your body is 60% water? When you spend all day out in the sun, it’s important to replenish the water that you lose by sweating. Start getting used to it; we recommend drinking as much as 2 litres of water per day.
Never Skip Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You want to make sure that you’re getting your carbs, fibre, and protein before you start your day. Try making a smoothie with fruits, milk, and protein. Check out these great recipes.
Get Your Carbs
Carbohydrates provide your body with energy. To make sure that you have enough juice to spend the entire day in the park, you should be eating lots of them. Luckily for you, there’s plenty of foods that can provide you with the right amount. These include: pasta, wholegrain bread, yogurt, oats, oranges, sweet potatoes, and legumes/lentils.
Don’t Over Do It With Protein
Protein is important to help you strengthen and maintain your muscles, but often times people consume way too much. Each day, you only need 1.2 to 1.4 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. Lean meats, fish, poultry, eggs, beans, and milk are all great sources of high-quality protein.
Eat Healthy Fats
Some people think fat is a bad thing. In actuality, fat plays a big part in fueling your body. It’s important to consume a healthy amount of it, as long as you’re getting it from the right places. For example: olive oil, nuts and seeds, avocado, or oily fish.
